Dawn Davis Watercolors
Dawn Davis is an award winning watercolor artist who has lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico for almost 25 years. She has been inspired by the natural beauty of the light and landscape in a place that artists have found magical for decades. She loves to hike and gather leaves and photos from the mountains and sky to use as tools for her creativity.
Living in the high desert, the artist often needs a “water fix” and travels to Hawaii, California, or Florida for some tropical inspiration from the flowers and ferns that she loves to paint. Dawn just finished a collaborative effort with Bealls Florida, who designed her watercolor paintings into women’s clothing for their stores.
Her paintings have received many awards. She is a signature member of both the New Mexico and Kansas Watercolor Societies and was recently juried into the National Watercolor Society exhibit held in Los Angeles, CA in 2018.
After graduating with a B.F. A. in art from Drake University, Dawn’s many careers have included jewelry design, interior design, fashion consulting, painting and teaching. She credits her grandmother, who was born in a sod dugout in western South Dakota with teaching her to sew. Dawn says that her many weekends and summers spent at her grandparents farm playing “Barbies” with her aunt, who was the same age, and making “Barbie” clothes is where her original fashion sense came from.
The fabrics are the culmination of many talents combined. They are printed from original watercolors and made into silk scarves, clothing, and decorative bedding. Meant to inspire joy, Dawn hopes her viewers will feel peace and serenity viewing her paintings and wearing her fabrics. One of her favorite favorites is named, “Happy”.
